Our Teacher-Only Day was very productive. We were exposed to different ways of teaching mathematics that we were not familiar with but we could see how they would make learning math a lot easier for all of our students. 

Yesterday's NKC Ripper tournament was an awesome day. The weather was perfect and so were our players. Everyone commented on the camaraderie that all of the OSS teams showed and the way that they supported each other before, during and after each game. Our Year 5/6 boys team won their division and the Year 5/6 girls were runners up in theirs. Both teams have qualified for the KC Championship tournament in Taupo next term. Our two Year 7/8 boys and our Year 7/8 girls made the semi finals but were unfortunately defeated in each of their games. Thanks to all of our supporters who gave up their time to come along and help out! We really appreciate it.
 

Tomorrow afternoon is our school Disco. Everyone is excited and looking forward to the seeing how each other will be dressed up in the zoo theme. Doors open at 5:00 pm for the junior session and 7:00 pm for the senior session. 

Next Wednesday we have some teams of students heading out to Kio Kio to the COPS inter-school Mathletics competition. This is a chance for our mathematicians to test their skills and knowledge against other students.

Our value focus for the week is Effort.

Our school-wide values are explicitly taught in all our classrooms and across various settings. These value lessons are also supported by our school councillors sharing messages and role-playing at assemblies, as well as value reminders over the school intercom each morning during our daily notices.

Over the past few weeks our netball teams have been competing in the Meet in the Middle tournament, held on Tuesday 29 July and 5, 12, and 19 August. Both our South White and South Black teams played with great determination and skill, meeting each other in the playoff for 3rd and 4th place. South Black came away with the win, but both teams showed fantastic teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Ka pai, players!

There have been a few confirmed cases of Influenza B among our students. Influenza B is a common and highly contagious strain of the flu virus. It can cause symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, and fatigue.
If your child is feeling unwell, especially with flu-like symptoms, we kindly ask that you keep them at home until they are fully recovered. This helps us limit the spread of illness and keep everyone as healthy as possible.

Please continue to encourage regular handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home when sick. If you have any concerns about your child’s health, we recommend contacting your GP.
