Welcome back to Term 3. We hope you enjoyed the Matariki celebrations over the long weekend. I enjoyed getting to know more about it - remembering the past, celebrating the present and planning for the future. It's been interesting to learn about its significance to a large range of cultures across the world and what the rising of the cluster means to them. I celebrated it with my extended family as well as making and sharing some smoked trevally dip with our staff and preparing my asparagus bed for the upcoming spring harvest. Tomorrow we are celebrating our students who received their tier 2 KETE award at last term's Pen Assembly with a breakfast in the hall from 8:20. They will be treated to waffles and a hot milo which they are all looking forward to.

We are holding parent-teacher interviews on Monday and Tuesday next week. Information has been emailed out to all families, if you are unable to book a time online please call the office and they will help you out.

During the term break our teachers attended a professional learning day focusing on the Kingitanga and the historical significance to our region. It was very informative and supports our Aotearoa New Zealand Histories curriculum.

Our values focus for the rest of this term is Engaged.

Our school-wide values are explicitly taught in all our classrooms and across a variety of settings. These value lessons are also supported by our school councillors sharing messages and role-playing at assemblies, as well as value reminders over the school intercom each morning during our daily notices.

Below is an example of our school-wide expectations of Engaged in one of our settings.

Ka Rawe to all of our tamariki who have continued to exemplify all four of our values to a high standard, and received a complete KETE certificate, which was presented at our PEN assembly at the end of last term.  We hope you all enjoy your breakfast with Mr Lincoln on Friday.

On Monday, classes will be supervised by Mr. Lincoln from 2:20pm, children will be released from the junior field or hall (weather dependant) at 3pm – or can be picked up prior.               

On Tuesday, students can be collected from the front of the school as usual.

Buses will run at the usual times.

Each booking is 10 minutes long. Please ensure you arrive on time to each booking.

The booking website will open Tuesday, 18 July at 11:00 AM, and will close Friday, 21 July at 3:00 PM.

Once you're finished, you can view your timetable by clicking My Interviews at the top of the page. You can also print a copy of your timetable to take to the event.

Before your bookings you'll receive an email reminder containing your timetable. If you need to cancel any bookings, you can do so by following the link in the email you received when you first signed up.

It's been a wriggly start to Term 3 in Room 15. We have started learning all about worms as part of our 'in the garden' inquiry. Earlier in the week we did some research, and then we set up our own worm farm called Wanda.

The Scholastic Book Club magazine went out to students yesterday. Final orders are due in on Friday 28 July.

Kia Ora - The 2023 Waitomo Miniball season is coming up.  The competition will run for approximately 12 weeks starting later this term and is played at the basketball courts in Te Kuiti. Final details of venue and games still to come.

In order to have this sporting opportunity, parent volunteers are essential to fill coaching/scorer positions.  Teams will only be registered if there is a Coach/Manager and Parent helper/scorer.  Transport to Te Kuiti is the responsibility of the parent/caregiver   NO Coach and Parent Scorer = NO TEAM

Ikura|Manaakitia te whare tangata is an initiative set up by the Ministry of Education to provide free period products in all state schools across New Zealand.  The main aims of this scheme are to support whānau with the rising cost of living and to make a positive impact on student wellbeing. If you would like to opt into the scheme, please contact the school office. 

 

Many families now choose to spread the cost of the Technology fee as well as the Middle and Senior Syndicate Camps over many months by making small, regular payments to the school bank account via internet banking. These costs will be applied to your child's account early in the year and emailed to you so that you have all of the information on hand. The camp cost is not due until later in the year, but you are welcome to start making payments at any time. If you choose to take up this option, please use your child's name as a reference.
