Last week's Gala was a huge success. The weather unfortunately affected the Talent Quest but everything else went to plan. Our goal was to ensure that Gala remained a community event which it was. It was great to see extended whanau coming along and joining in along with ex-students. We raised $12,000 which is going to help purchase some new sports uniforms. Thanks to all of our staff and families for helping out on the night as well as all of the students for selling raffle tickets and bringing all food donations and baking. Thanks also to all of the sponsors who donated so generously and last of all thanks to Jody, Cheryl and Bubba for all of the organising you did, it wouldn't have been successful without all of the extra work that you did behind the scenes!

Today I'm taking a group from the middle syndicate down to the Harvest Centre as part of the Lion's Reach Awards. These students have been nominated by their teachers as being engaged and putting extra effort into their learning.

Tomorrow afternoon we are holding the Talent Quest for the entire school to watch in the hall. We are going to have an earlier lunch so we can start it at 1:00pm. Please feel free to come along and watch the performances.

The North King Country Football club has managed to gather enough people to ensure this season goes ahead. Please have your registrations in by Monday 22 March.

School interviews are taking place on Monday and Tuesday afternoon, an online booking invitation has been sent to you and is included in the newsletter. The cutoff for booking appointments is 3pm, Friday. If you can't make either day and would like to catch up with your child's teacher, please arrange a time with them.

The end of term is approaching quickly. The Easter holiday begins next week and continues through to Tuesday 2nd April (Easter Tuesday). School resumes again on Wednesday 3rd.

BOT News: A casual vacancy has occurred on the school board for an elected parent representative. The board has decided to fill the vacancy by selection. If 10% or more of eligible voters on the school roll ask the board, within 28 days of this notice being published, to hold a by-election to fill the vacancy, then a by-election will be held. Request for a by-election should be sent to: Sandy Rattray (election officer) admin@otosouth.school.nz by the 3rd April.

Our values focus for the next few weeks is Effort.

Our school-wide values are explicitly taught in all our classrooms and across various settings. These value lessons are also supported by our school councillors sharing messages and role-playing at assemblies, as well as value reminders over the school intercom each morning during our daily notices.

Each booking is 10 minutes long. Please ensure you arrive on time to each booking.

Yesterday the Lower Juniors had a very special visit from Ruben the Road Safety Bear. We sang and danced with Ruben and also talked about some important things that we need to remember. Ruben told us that we need to choose the safest place to cross the road and 'stop, look, listen and link'. Ruben also reminded us that it's safest to use a booster seat until we're at least 148cm tall. We had so much fun with Ruben!

Starting Dates for Otorohanga Netball:

This netball programme involves a skill based session with a small sided game to follow for years 3-4  in order to have this sporting opportunity parents/caregivers are required to run this programme.  (uniforms will not be issued to these players) 

This netball programme play the normal 7 on 7 version of the game.  Uniforms will only be issued to those students who have paid fees. 

Remember it is not possible for us to have a successful season without your help. We need coaches, managers, umpires in order for our students to have this opportunity.

Last night the AGM was held for the North King Country Junior Football Club.  There were 5 people in attendance, with representatives from Kio Kio School, Otorohanga South School, Centennial Park School and Te Kuiti Primary School.

With the resignation of last year's President and previous committee members moving on, the future of football in Te Kuiti for 2024 is unclear.

We are desperately seeking parents or community members to step into numerous roles on the committee to keep football running for our tamariki. If you are willing to help please send an email or contact your school football delegate by Tuesday 19 March.

We will then be in touch by Friday 22 March with a decision about the season.

OSS will continue to plan for the season so please complete this questionnaire if your child would like to play soccer.  Please make one entry per child.  You can revisit the form to make additional entries for your household. 

The POD season will run for approximately 10 weeks during term 2 and start on Friday 3rd May 2024.  All POD sessions will be on Friday afternoons at the Centennial Park grounds, Park Street (directly opposite Centennial Park School) Te Kuiti.  Sessions will start at 3:45pm.

There is a change to how the PODS will be run this year - there will be a draw of scheduled games similar to the 10th and 13th grades.  Each POD team will play 3 x 15 minutes or 2 x 20 minute scheduled games (to be discussed).  Therefore POD teams will need to be registered similar to the older grades - games will be 5v5. (you will be able to share players across teams if needed).

 

U13s grade will play 9v9 format with 25min halves and U10s play 7v7 format with 25 min halves.  The season will run for 10 weeks during term 2 and competition games will start on Friday 3rd May 2024 (TBC).   All games will be held on Friday afternoons at the Centennial Park grounds, Te Kuiti - with a start time of 3:30pm.

Payment includes uniform and NCKJF fee.  Uniforms will be issued on payment of sub. All subs are payable to the school office or via internet banking once they have been confirmed:  Please use child’s name and sport as a reference.
