COPS inter-school winter sports competition was held yesterday. It was an awesome day, one that our students, whanau and teachers thoroughly enjoyed. Everywhere I went I heard positive comments about all of our students. Thanks to all of the parents who helped manage our teams and everyone who came along and supported them. Also a big thanks to the College for providing the umpires for all three codes, they were appreciated by everyone as they did a great job.

Welcome back Nicky and Harold the Giraffe. It's great to see their friendly faces back in our school again. Classes will be visiting the Life Ed trailer starting tomorrow.

Next Tuesday/Wednesday we have the Upper Junior team heading to the Kihikihi Space Centre as part of their space study. Next Wednesday I'll be accompanying our school councillors to the National Young Leaders Day in Hamilton where they get to listen to motivational speakers.

Our values focus for the next few weeks is Trustworthy.

Our school-wide values are explicitly taught in all our classrooms and across various settings. These value lessons are also supported by our school councillors sharing messages and role-playing at assemblies, as well as value reminders over the school intercom each morning during our daily notices.

Below is an example of our school-wide expectations of Trustworthy in one of our settings.

Congratulations to our Tamariki who were awarded a Tier 2 KETE certificate at our Junior and Senior Assemblies last week. These students have consistently displayed our KETE values and enjoyed a Waffle Breakfast with Mr Lincoln on Tuesday morning.

We also celebrated our Tier 1 KETE recipients who received either a K, E, T or E certificate - Ka Rawe!

Ōtorohanga South School is joining the movement on Pink Shirt Day on Friday 17 May 2024, and encouraging our staff and students to Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu, Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora – Speak up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying!

Pink Shirt Day works to reduce bullying and supports schools, workplaces and communities to be safe, supportive, welcoming and inclusive for everyone. To celebrate this important kaupapa we’ll be showing our support by wearing a pink shirt to school tomorrow.

HELP! The Otorohanga District Library is drowning in Skinny Jump modems!

They have so many modems to give away - if you know someone who doesn't have an internet connection at home, send them to the library to see if they can hook them up.

Refreshed health guidance released by Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is now available to help decide if a learner is well enough to attend school | kura, including learners experiencing anxiety.

Many families now choose to spread the cost of the Technology fee as well as the Middle and Senior Syndicate Camps over many months by making small, regular payments to the school bank account via internet banking. These costs will be applied to your child's account early in the year and emailed to you so that you have all of the information on hand. The camp cost is not due until later in the year, but you are welcome to start making payments at any time. If you choose to take up this option, please use your child's name as a reference.
