Principal's Desk
Kia ora koutou.
Welcome back to term 2. We have lots of exciting events heading our student's way. To start off we have What Now here filming in week 3, Nicky and Harold the Giraffe back again in week 4 along with the COPS inter-school sports competition. The Upper Juniors are heading to the Kihikihi Space Centre in week 5 and school photos are in wk 6. This week we had Akshaay from WaiBoP Football in providing coaching support for the UJ classrooms ahead of the COPS event, he stayed around for the afternoon to help out with coaching hints for our U10 and U13 teams.
During the holidays we had a delivery from Apperley's Timber and Landscape Supplies of seven raised garden beds for the lower and upper junior classes. We are currently filling them with leaf litter to build up the base before we get a delivery of mulch and topsoil. We will keep you updated on the garden's progress.
This week signals the start of winter sports. Thanks to all of the coaches and managers who have come forward to help out. We look forward to seeing the teams play and hearing about their successes.
This week we welcomed Liv Fairweather onto our staff. Liv is going to help out in a variety of roles, providing structured literacy support for the upper juniors, teach one day a fortnight in Rm 15, covering for teacher sickness if required and providing release for our gifted and talented science badge programme.
Our staff on the pedestrian crossing outside of the school gate are constantly experiencing issues where some of our parents are driving through the crossing instead of stopping and allowing students to cross safely. For the safety of all of our students can you please adhere to this road rule.
BoT News
We have Rooms 12 - 16 being painted during the term. We will also be painting the interior of the hall which will be out of action for a few weeks as a result.
Please note: we are having a staff only day on Thursday the 27th of June (the day before Matariki Holiday). This is so all of our staff can take part in Restorative Practices professional learning development that is being led by the University of Waikato. The school will be closed for the day. Families will be able to have an extended long weekend.
