Last Friday we had Room 1 supporting the Junior classroom students in a tuakana - teina role, helping to fill their raised garden beds up with compost. They did a great job sorting out where to position the students, how much to fill their bucket up and showing them where to deposit the compost into the garden. The Juniors really enjoyed taking an active part in their garden development. We look forward to seeing some plants growing in the future and enjoying the harvest!
We have the middle team away at camp Ngaruawahia at the moment. The photos I have seen so far clearly show the students are having fun. Unfortunately I can't attend this year as I'm at the national principal's conference. Mrs Hickford is attending today and is keeping me updated with photos and videos. I'm looking forward to hearing back from the students next week.
Our Disco was really well supported last week. Thanks to Miss Nield and our councillors for organising and putting on an exciting evening. Thanks also to our amazing teaching team who went along and supported the students to have a great night!
Maramataka: Today marks Rākaumatohi which is part of the full moon phase. It's a good day to plant root crops. As the moon phase changes through the the last quarter phase next Wednesday with the arrival of Tangaroa-ā-mua. Start considering which seedlings you'd like to plant as it is a good time to be doing this.
We have a very contagious gastro bug doing the rounds at the moment. Please keep your child at home if they are showing symptoms.
Lost property: We have a mountain of lost property located under the covered walkway on the Junior side of the school. Please come and take a look and see if you can claim some of the items. Generally what happens when we get this much is that we donate it to Op Shops. We would rather it goes back to the owners. It will be available outside the hall at next week's Pen Assembly.
Teacher Only Day - Tuesday 29th October: We are holding our next curriculum refresh teacher only day on Tuesday 29th which is the day after Labour Day.

Our School Values - KETE
Our values focus for the next few weeks is Effort. Our school-wide values are explicitly taught in all our classrooms and across various settings. These value lessons are also supported by our school councillors sharing messages and role-playing at assemblies, as well as value reminders over the school intercom each morning during our daily notices.
Below is an example of our school-wide expectations of how to show Effort in the Playground.
Having a growth mindset is very important when it comes to learning both in and out of school.
A massive congratulations to our Tier 2 Kete recipients at our Junior and Senior Assemblies last week - who have demonstrated all four KETE values to an extremely high standard.
Well done also to those who received a Tier 1 - K, E, T, or E certificate!

Students experimented with 4 different kinds of chemicals and wrote down observations of what they saw and noticed when they dipped their metal loop into water and one of the chemicals at a time and held it over the flame to see what happened… our next learning is what each chemical is (copper sulphate, calcium chloride, potassium chloride and strontium chloride) and why they react the way they do?

Refreshed health guidance released by Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is now available to help decide if a learner is well enough to attend school | kura, including learners experiencing anxiety.
Many families now choose to spread the cost of the Technology fee as well as the Middle and Senior Syndicate Camps over many months by making small, regular payments to the school bank account via internet banking. These costs will be applied to your child's account early in the year and emailed to you so that you have all of the information on hand. The camp cost is not due until later in the year, but you are welcome to start making payments at any time. If you choose to take up this option, please use your child's name as a reference.
